When I was younger, my cousins and I loved playing Spice Girls. You know, the game where you each pretended to be your favorite Spice Girl? We loved to reenact our favorite scenes from the greatest movie of all times, Spice World, in our grandparent’s basement.
I was always Posh – even then I was guilty of loving a “little-Gucci dress.” Since then, not much has changed, like my love for Posh. But I can confirm that I now realize that I can’t actually afford a “little-Gucci dress.” *sigh*
I’ve loved the past few collaborations that Target has done with celebrities, designers and brands (extra love for the Who What Wear collection), so I was pretty darn excited for Victoria Beckham x Target to launch.
When the preview of the collection went live a few months back, I was excited, but I wasn’t blown away (you’re still my #1, Posh). Knowing that the Internet can be deceiving, and that the clothes would fit differently on me than they did on the models, I was eager to give it a shot.
Since it only launched on Sunday, there were only a few reviews on my favorite items when I got the urge to shop yesterday afternoon {yes, I cheated on my Lenten promise}. It’s a new collection, and I knew it would sell out quickly in stores and online, so I wanted to be sure that I was buying the right sizes and styles for my body. This called for a Monday night at Target, or better yet – at three Targets.
For the Chicago gals, I ventured out to Golf Mill first, and there selection was very picked over. They only had a few of the pieces – for both women and girls – and they were super low on sizes. Next, I went to the Target on Touhy in Niles. They definitely had a larger selection {find it in the jewelry section – not the women’s clothes section}, and a lot more sizes, so it was worth the stop – even if it was just to get a few of these pictures. Lastly, I went to the Target in the HIP. Coincidentally, this is the closest to me and also had the largest selection – both in terms of styles and sizes.
After three stores and three hours, I came home with two things, but more on that later. For your shopping convenience, here are a few of my takeaways from the Victoria Beckham x Target collection. Hopefully this will help you make a few killer selections – there is so much to choose from!
Colors/Patterns:
- Fuchsia {gold rated}: This color is absolutely GORGEOUS. It’s perfect for spring, but will also make a welcome, cheery statement come summer.
- Orange {bronze rated}: This color is somewhere in between a bright, highlighter orange and a burnt orange. I know, I was confused about that description, too. Personally, I don’t usually wear orange, so that might be why I wasn’t digging this color. That being said, I think blondes or someone with a darker skin tone would totally rock it. If this collection launched in July, and I had a little tan, I think I would have given it a higher rating.
- Floral {bronze rated}: I tried on a dress with an all floral print, and although I loved the fit, I wasn’t sold on the floral. I wish the pattern was embroidered on, rather than printed, but given the prices are all under $50, I can appreciate the simple beauty.
- Bees {gold rated}: This rating is 100 percent personal. I went to St. Ambrose University, and our mascot is the Fighting Bess {yes, this is a real thing}. I loved college as much as the next gal, so you can bet I’m going to buy any article of clothing with a cute bee on it. Andddd they’re endangered, so all the more reason to give them a little love {buzz, buzz!}!
- Gingham {gold rated}: This classic, spring-timey pattern is one of my favorites. Victoria’s is navy blue and white – what’s not to love?
- Jacquard: My mom told me that this pattern looked a little curtain-ish, but I love it! The blush pink has Easter brunch written all over it. Now if only they would restock the bomber jacket in my size…!
Sizes:
- Normally, I’m a size 10, although I can fluctuate between an eight and a 12, depending on style. This usually translates to either a medium or a large, again, depending on the style {i.e. I would normally buy a shift dress in a 10/large and a fit-and-flare in an 8/medium}
- For the most part, I found the collection to be “true-to-size”
- If I were to order online, I would have bought everything in a size large to play it safe, especially since I’m usually a large in Target clothes {Who What Wear, included}, so for this reason – I’m glad I shopped in stores
- Even though I’m busty, I needed a medium in every top I tried on. I ended up taking this baby home – it’s a long top, so the large looked too oversized & boxy
- I have an hourglass shape, and I love shift dresses, so you bet I bought this dress. Although the medium fit, I thought it was a little too tight in the hip region, which made it both too short and NSFW, so I ended up buying it in a large
Quality: Unreal. Just like the Who What Wear line, the quality can’t be beat, especially given the fact that everything is affordable. Most of the pieces are made largely of polyester, although the fabric doesn’t feel cheap or heavy.
Styles:
- Shift {gold rated}: I love a shift dress. Classic and comfortable. When they fit right {like this one that I brought}, they can be dressed up for the office with a blazer and heels, or dressed down with slip-ons and a jean jacket on the weekends
- Fit-and-flare {gold rated}: I only saw one dress in this style, although I wish they had others, because it was super flattering. Whether you have an hourglass shape or not, I think all gals look great with an accentuated waist
- Drop waist / Ruffle Hem {silver rated}: When I saw this style online, I loved it, but couldn’t imagine myself wearing it. Since I have hips and a bum, I normally never wear this style, but I was impressed with the dresses I tried, {especially the orange scallop-trimmed one!}. The medium was more fitted throughout the dress, so the flare at the bottom was more exaggerated – a little too short for me but very cute for a night out. The large was a little too loose, although I think it’s a perfect dress to belt and wear to the office.
- Peplum {bronze rated}: Both peplum tops I tried were super cute, but a little too peplum for me. If this is your style, it’s a chic way to highlight your waist, too.
- Romper {silver rated}: I always assume that I need to size up in a romper, but both the scalloped and the floral rompers fit well in a medium. Not too short, but also not baggy. Both were adorable {especially the scallops}, but I need to be head-over-heels over a romper if I’m going to unzip and get completely undressed every time I go to the bathroom.
What these babies really look like on:
I understand that everyone has different body shapes and opinions, so just because I didn’t love something, or I didn’t think it flattered by figure, doesn’t mean that it won’t look incredible on you. Hopefully my tips will be a good guide, but I would suggest making your way to your local Target ASAP to see for yourself!
In the meantime, tell me what you think about the collaboration in the comments below and head over to my Instagram page to see how I’m styling my favorite buy! All in all, I’m really liking this Target collab – and hoping that it becomes a seasonal collection. A gal can dream, right?!
Happy Shopping!

This line seemed pretty well made. Loving the bee prints, and as a petite, I could even fit into some of the girls’ clothing.
