Last week, I posted this photo on Instagram and included one of my go-to styling tips that either dresses up a casual outfit, or dresses down a fancy pair of shoes. The tip? Pair you ladylike heels with raw hem or distressed denim for a casual & classic look.
After posting this, I received a few comments and messages about loving the simple tip and hoping to see similar content on my social handles and here on GG. Since it’s a new year, and I have yet to post since 2016, I thought I might as well start off the year with another styling tip I love and actually use in my daily life.
On the weekends, one of my favorite go-to styles is jeans and a tee. Depending on your plans, this outfit can easily be dressed up or down – whether you are heading to your favorite brunch spot, braving the crowds at Ikea or lounging around the house. During spring 2017 fashion week, graphic tees were all over the runway, so I don’t think this style will be going away anytime soon.
I know there are a ton of girls out there who can totally rock the minimal effort, jeans and a tee look {eh-hmm Jennifer Aniston}, and on some days I like to think I sorta fit into that category. Butttt then there are those days when instead of looking casual and cute, I look frumpy and tired – obviously things I try to avoid.
My solution? Add a little somethin’ somethin’ to spice up your jeans and tee, rather than ditching the comfy outfit altogether.
I searched long and far for this t-shirt {seriously, I got it shipped direct from a store in NY after stalking them for two days} because it was sold out EVERYWHERE, but lucky for you, it’s now available on their site in every size. I was so nervous that I would spill something on it the first time I wore it out, that it literally sat in the packaging for almost a month. After bringing this Alice & Wonder jacket home from the Windy City Blogger Collective holiday party, it instantly clicked – I had the perfect reason to break out my graphic tee.
On their own, these shoes and this jacket could easily be dressed up for a Friday night out or your 9 – 5 gig, but they were just what I needed to take my jeans and tee from errands to lunch with a few fun photos in between.
I hope this look inspires you to dress down this weekend. Before you plan your own version of this outfit in your head and run to the mall, try shopping in your closet. Pair your distressed jeans with a graphic tee {I know you have one in your closet, but if you don’t, Target has an awesome selection & most are under $20} and throw on a tweed blazer or leather jacket before leaving the house. Take your outfit up a notch with a fun pair of statement earrings – another must have trend for spring 2017!
How do you dress up jeans and a tee? Tell me in the comments below, on Facebook or on my Instagram.
I hope this tip gives you inspiration to get comfy & cute this weekend!
